Oded was kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz together with his wife, Yochaved, who was released by Hamas on 10/23/23. For many years, Oded was a journalist and columnist for Al HaMishmar. He was a freedom fighter, a human rights activist, and an amateur pianist. His nephew and sister recalled that he spoke to them on Saturday morning, saying that he heard voices in Arabic but was not worried.
Oded was murdered while in Hamas captivity, and his body was returned to Israel as part of the Hostage-Ceasefire deal in February 2025.
